Chapter 31 - Saving Kugo

Belamis walked out of the chamber after she used her own body to charge up the cosmic energy gun of Galaxy Warrior again. She breathed heavily, struggling to stand up. Medora helped her, and said, "Belamis..."

Belamis looked at her, at this moment Medora was like her only close loved one. Belamis said, "Thank you..."

Medora helped Belamis as she walked to the room where Dr. Joey was.

"How is Kugo ?" Belamis asked.

"He arrived at Earth, and Dr. Kitty and Assistant Professor Dodge are treating him...." Dr. Joey replied.

"Can I talk to Kugo ?" Belamis demand.

Just then, Dr. Kitty was on the transmitter.

"Belamis... Kugo will live..." Dr. Kitty said.

Yet Belamis sensed something, and she immediately asked, "How's his body???"

Dr. Kitty paused.

Belamis took a deep breath, and then laid her hands on the computer and began punching commands to retrieve the messages and data.

"No..." Dr. Joey shouted.

Yet Belamis was a good at computers and science, she knew how to find the data, and before her was the diagnosis of Kugo: Kugo's body and limbs were so severely damaged that there were no hopes of repairing them. Earth's cyborg technology needed the subject's body and limbs' biological parts to implant the cybernetics, and with Kugo's condition, he practically had nothing of his limbs and body, except Kugo's vital parts.

Tears rolled out of Belamis' eyes, and she took out the wedding ring Kugo gave her and gazed at it.

"Dr. Kitty... is that it ? Tell me..." Belamis begged.

Dr. Kitty paused. Professor Dodge tried to talk, but stopped short of speaking.

"Professor Dodge... you cannot  hide anything from me..." Belamis said calmly. She then punched the keys at the computer, and found out: Kugo needed means to regenerate the cells of his body, and the only way was to extract stem cells or the like, and...the best choice was from Gariusu giantess like Belamis.

Belamis looked at the data, and she said, "Draw the cells from my body!"

"It would be a painful procedure....and it could leave you bed-ridden for days..." Dr. Kitty said.

"I have to save Kugo!"

Dr. Kitty knew Belamis was deeply in love with Kugo, and she knew Belamis wouldn't listen given her love to Kugo and her stubborn character.

Dr. Kitty replied, "You cannot let your emotions get the best of you... you are the Major Admiral now, and if anything happens to you..."

Belamis paused.

"I cannot live in a world without Kugo..." Belamis bowed her head, "I will take the risk." Belamis said.

Dr. Kitty said, "OK, then we have to prepare for a lot of contingencies. I will brief Dr. Joey on it."

After 2 days, Dr. Joey prepared the procedure, with Belamis lying down on the bed ready to have her cells extracted.

"The procedure would draw cell samples from many points in your body. Most of them from your deep muscle that would hurt badly...and a few from your spine and bones... which hurts most..." Dr. Joey replied.

Belamis nodded, and said, "Got it..."

The procedure began.

As the syringes poked into Belamis body, Belamis felt horrid pains, but her love to Kugo helped her endured through the procedure. As the syringe poked into Belamis' spine and bones,  it was the most painful, and Belamis clutched her teeth, without a sound.

Medora watched, and cried.  Dr. Joey watched and felt sorry too, and said, "Belamis.. you are really brave.."

The procedure lasted for 4 hours, and was finally over, Belamis laid on the bed, unable to move.

Medora looked at her, and held Belamis' hand.

Belamis breathed heavily, and said, "I have to do this... I cannot live without Kugo..."

Belamis turned to Dr. Joey and asked, "Is it going to help ?"

Dr. Joey replied, "I am not able to answer that... it is a procedure never attempted before.. though theoretically possible. You are talking about rebuilding a person's body from ground up..."

Belamis signed.

Medora looked at Belamis, and said, "I am using my Galaxy Energy to help you..... Belamis, please don't be stubborn and let me help you..." Medora was in tears, as she saw Belamis endured through the pain.

Belamis signed. Medora then used the Galaxy Energy on Belamis, so that Belamis could recover quicker.

The Galaxy Energy really worked, Belamis was able to stand up, then Medora collapsed, with Belamis holding Medora in her arms.

Medora touched Belamis' face, and said, "I am OK."

Belamis was speechless, and hold Medora tightly.

A few days later, another communication from Earth. It was from Dr. Kitty.

"Belamis,  you cells arrived and we have begun the procedure to rebuild Kugo..." Dr. Kitty began.

"How's it going ?" Belamis asked, anxious to find out.

Dr. Kitty knew Belamis loved Kugo deeply, and replied, "Kugo's body responded well.... but... we needed months to find out... I and Professor Dodge cared about Kugo as much as you do, and will do anything to revive him."

Belamis was worried, but now she could only put her trust on Dr. Kitty and Professor Dodge on Earth, whist she commanded the Galaxy Union fleet to weed out the remaining forces of Golinkor empire.

Belamis said, "Can.. can I see Kugo.. can he talk to me ?"

Dr. Kitty knew Belamis was attached to Kugo, replied, "He is under sedation, but you can see him..."

The screen showed Kugo in a chamber, filled with solution. Kugo's had only part of his torso left. Belamis' heart broke.

"That's special solution where his body could gradually regenerate. We used your cells as seeds, and  combined with his DNA... the progress is promising. Kugo did not feel a thing as we sedated him." Dr. Kitty added.

Belamis murmured, "Kugo... Kugo..." and she cried.

Medora watched Belamis shedding tears, and she immediately felt the kind of love Belamis had towards Kugo.

"After his body is rebuilt, there are still months ahead for his rehabilitation..." Dr. Kitty continued.

Belamis looked away and said, "Please... take care of Kugo..."

Another alarm sounded. The Golinkor forces appeared again.

"Kugo.. I promise I will return to you safely..." Belamis sworn and returned to her command, wearing a calm face.

"There's another group of battleships approaching, we have to deploy  cosmic energy gun..." Greg said.

"The energy reserve is enough for three shots..." Lester replied, as he looked at Belamis. The cosmic energy gun was powered by Belamis, and every time she went through a lot of pain to charge the energy of it.

"I wished after this war, we can destroy this damn gun...." Lester said.

Belamis listened, and knew what he meant.

Belamis said, "This time I will go out in my jet and lead the squadron."

The pilots of the fighters at the squadron cheered, "Captain!!! We have waited to fight alongside with you!"

Belamis smiled, "I preferred to be called Captain Belamis, not Major Admiral... too mouthful ..."

She took her helmet, and stood up.

"Brothers....... support me..."

The crew saluted Belamis.

Belamis hopped to her jet, and started the engine. It was the place where Belamis' felt most at home, and motivated. She commanded the squadron, the fleet, as she fought in her jet in the front line.

Belamis piloted her jet and a group of fighters followed her.

"Team Alpha and Beta, fallback and guard our fleet. Team Gamma and Delta, follow me." Belamis commanded.

"I am going to deal the blow to defeat Golinkor empire...." Belamis said.

"Belamis.... it's been a while..." That was the voice of Krausman.

Belamis signed.

Now the final showdown.
